The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday described food security as a fundamental factor to peace and unity in Nigeria.
The party also in its goodwill message to Muslims and all Nigerians to mark the Eid’l-Maulud, urged Nigerians to put aside their differences, end sectarian strives in the country and join hands in building an endearing society for the benefit of all.
Speaking when Governor Martins Elechi paid him a courtesy visit at the party national secretariat, Bamanga Tukur, National Chairman of PDP said, “Food security is fundamental to a peaceful and united Nigeria. It is for this reason that the founding fathers of our great Party anchored the prosperity of our dear nation on the full exploitation of our vast agricultural potentials so that we can sufficiently feed our people as well as having enough for export.
“Your vote for massive agricultural development in Ebonyi State is an issue at the heart of the manifesto of our great Party while the gains you have so far recorded are proof to the efficacy of our party’s objectives in agriculture. It is also clear evidence that our party and its manifesto are alive in your state.
“Because agriculture holds the key to food and job security, the PDP led federal government has keyed in job opportunities in the agricultural sector as a veritable weapon in tackling the current security challenges in the country.”
Earlier, Governor Elechi informed the party leadership of the three new high capacity rice mills his administration established in the three senatorial zones of the State and restated his determination to fully tap the agricultural endowments that abound in Ebonyi.
“These world class rice mills will no doubt boost our of efforts in ensuring a zero rice importation regime in the country,” he added.
In a statement by the party National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the party reiterated that it is only when Nigerians set aside religious, ethnic and political differences and unite that the nation will become a place all will be proud of.
PDP urged Nigerians to reflect on the message of Eid’l-Maulud and imbibe the attributes of peace, oneness and love which the Holy Prophet Mohammed epitomized.
The party called for end to sectarian strives in the country, saying Nigerians must learn to be their brothers’ keepers irrespective of religious, political and tribal leanings.
“We are one people united by a common destiny; therefore we must set aside all our differences and work together as one people. We must use this occasion to reflect and imbibe the attributes of peace, unity and love towards one another,” the party said.
