As parts of measures to boost the operational success of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Federal Government on Monday in Abuja launched 283 operational vehicles for the use of the Corps.
President Muhammadu Buhari who launched the vehicles said the gesture would no doubt boost the operational capability of the corps and enhance the capacity of men to face the challenges of enforcing traffic rules and regulations on the nation’s high ways.
President Buhari who was represented at the event by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazzau expressed optimism that the fleet of vehicles would give impetus to the ongoing global campaign for road safety under the auspices of the United Nations Decade Action For Road Safety: 2011-2020.
He gave assurance that his administration would continue to render the necessary support for the success of its campaigns for safety on the nation’s roads for the enhancement of the economic activities and tourist potentials of the people.
The President also urged Nigerians to support the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies in their efforts to ensure safety and security of the people.
“Taking safety measures and joining in the campaign to make the nation’s highways safe is a civil responsibility which all Nigerians must remain committed” President Buhari said.
Speaking earlier, the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi said the launch of the operational vehicles symbolised the sustained intent of the federal government to raise the bar on road safety management and collective dedication to the task of exploring innovative and resourceful ways of funding the road safety intervention in the road sector.
He remarked that the FRSC has been retooled for improved performance with injection of the new operational vehicles.
