Ahead of the 2013 Area Councils’ election in the Federal Capital Territory,a member, Board of Trustees of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, and founding member of the party in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Isah Yahaya has resigned his membership of the party BOT as well as the party itself.
Yahaya who made his resignation known through a letter addressed to the Chairman of the party did not offer specific reasons for his resignation but told reporters that the party has failed to stabilize; move forward or maintain a viable opposition status in the FCT.
“I Yahaya Isah, a founding member of All Nigeria Peoples Party ANPP FCT Abuja and four time chairmanship Candidate of the ANPP in Bwari Area Council, presently member of the National Board of Trustees BOT representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja for obvious reasons, hereby, formally resign as member of the Board of Trustees and consequently, resign my membership from the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP” his resignation letter stated
Speaking to reporters, Isa said his resignation from the party would enable him move forward in his political career.
He pointed out that it was also in response to pressure from members of the party who trust in his leadership and demanded he aligns himself with a platform from which he can make a significant difference on the lives of the people of Bwari.
According to him, politics is a game of number and opinion of the followership therefore, it would amount to political suicide if he ignores the demand of his followers who have entrusted him with their confidence to lead them politically.
His words: “My system of politics in any circumstance goes with peoples’ opinion.
Anything I do has to represent the view and the interest of the people and at the same time if you see the way the ANPP has been going in the past 13 years all my contemporary with whom we established the ANPP in Abuja are still in the party.
The party could neither move forward nor stabilize; the party could not even maintain its status as a viable opposition, yet it is not a ruling party.
In my mind if the party is not a ruling party, it ought to take its place as a viable opposition that would rival the ruling party with a view to making life improve for the people and development of the society.
A situation where the party fails to be any of these then you can see that there is problem that is why ANPP will continue to go down and down.
As a leader with passion for the development of the society especially my constituency ,I should have some responsibility to offer to my people and if the ANPP is not giving that room it is on the strength of that confidence that I have to seek an alternative platform”.
It would be recalled that early in the year, the ANPP in Bwari had opposed his interest to contest for the Party in the forth coming election as he has taken several shots without making any success.
Yahaya did not give any hint to the new party where he hopes to actualize his aspiration.
