The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airports Council International (ACI) for the training of Staff of the Authority by ACI.
FAAN said in a statement on Wednesday by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Yakubu Dati, that Engr. Dunoma Saleh, the authority’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, signed the MOU with ACI at the just concluded 24th Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Annual Assembly, Regional Conference and Exhibition in Hammamet, Tunisia.
The statement read, “The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Engr. Dunoma Saleh, at the just concluded 24th Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Annual Assembly, Regional Conference and Exhibition in Hammamet, Tunisia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airports Council International (ACI) on behalf of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, for the training of Staff of the Authority by ACI.”
Dati said the capacity building exercise is in line with the Authority’s resolve to further equip and widen the intellectual capacity of staff with new trends in the aviation industry.
The statement quoted Dunoma as saying that the training of operational staff had become inevitable because, globally, safety had become a major concern that needed to be addressed urgently, through the re-awakening of staff consciousness in ensuring safety and security at airports.
“This is aside from the fact that the ACI training is in compliance with the recommended practise of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),” he added.
The FAAN MD however commended the Airports Council International for the initiative on Airports Excellence in Safety (APEX) programme.
