Civil servants in the State have been advised to take advantage of the Biometric Exercise being carried out by the Rivers State government or forget their salaries .
Speaking on a live radio programme, “Saving the Niger Delta with Ann Kio Briggs” on Saturday, 04 June 2016, on Today FM, in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Austin Tam-George, said that the aim of the exercise was to ascertain the actual number of personnel in the Rivers State civil service.
The Information Boss disclosed that the exercise is transparent, adding that “it is a process that uses an advanced biometric technology to verify people who actually work in the State Civil Service”, he said.
Mr William Idoniboye, Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Information Communication Technology (ICT), noted that the new vision of modernizing the civil service database was conceived by Governor Nyesom Wike, adding that the exercise is government driven and has saved the state over N1billion.
