Deputy Speaker of the House of representatives, Honourable Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun has called for the creation of an enabling environment for professionals to practice what they learn.
Deputy Speaker noted that Nigeria can only develop through promotion of technology and skill acquisition.
He maintained that an enabling environment should be created for professionals and engineers to practice in the country rather than allowing foreigners to suppress the local engineers.
Deputy Speaker made this remark when the management of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday in his office.
According to him, Nigeria can be developed through the promotion of skill acquisition if professionals are allowed to practise what they learnt in the higher institution.
“It is saddening that since independence we still have foreigners dominating the sector that could develop the nation’s technology.
I feel pained that our professionals are not being utilized maximally, technology is about trial, practice, failure and correction before success could be achieved”. He said
Honourable Lasun assured that the 8th Assembly would legislate with a difference by bringing all sectors both private and public together to educate the legislators about laws that can help in moving the country to the next level.
Earlier in her speech, Mrs Mercy Iyortyer who led the Institute to the Deputy Speaker explained that institute came to congratulate him on his election.
She drew the attention of the Deputy speaker to Public Procurement Act 2007 whereby Quantity Surveyors are not represented in the Council of Procurement.
“We call upon the House to intervene and have the Institute included in the council of the Public procurement Act “, she urged.
