Davido, Patoranking, 2Face Idibia, Billed To  Storm the Calabar International Carnival


 Top-ranked Nigerian Pop acts,  Davido, Patoranking, 2face Idiabia, Flavor, are billed to perform alongside some International artists at the annual International   carnival calabar cultural festival slated for Boxing Day,  December 26,this year at Calabar, the Cross Rivers State capital.

 Special Assistant  to Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River State on Event Management,

 Kenneth Aklah disclosed yesterday in Calabar while briefing journalists on activities  slated for the now internationally-renown cultural fiesta.

Apart from the big stars, other  local performing artists warming up for the biggest fiesta in Africa street party  include, Makafizolo, Timaya and  Star plus. This year’s event tagged, Black Music Festival  will kick-off from December 26 through the new year.

 Aklah said the event together with others will be broadcast live for about three days, adding that about 670,000 crowd are expected this year’s event, we which is  organized annually by the government of Cross Rivers State.

 The State Governor’s aide also stated that the carnival commission will attract people from about 22 to 25 countries from all over the world for the largest street party in the world.

 On adequate  preparation  made to take care of sanitation situation at

 the carnival village, Aklah stated that  a bore hole had been put in

 place to provide water  for the purpose, in order to make a hitch-free event.

“We have gone ahead to sink a borehole to take care of the sanitation

 problem. We have to do commercialization in order to give carnival a

 new thinking”. Aklah stressed.

 Also speaking at the event, the Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism Mr. Eric  Anderson in his remarks stated that the Carnival commission had also

 concluded arrangement to  add some theatrical shows to  showcase the

 cultural heritage  of the people to spice up the carnival festival.

 The state Tourism Commissioner, added that personalities like the

 Minister for Information and Orientation ,Alhaji Lai Mohammed would be

 at the ceremony to participate in the cultural fiesta.

 On Bikers parade, Anderson said that the presence of the Bikers in the

 ceremony would help in boosting the economy of the state.

“These are  high income earners, and  once they stay in Calabar for

 two -3 days,  the multiplier effects on the locals will be

 felt very much” Anderson stressed.

 The commissioner who spoke on the carnival theme, tagged “Migration”,

said that the commission is working with the security agents to beef

 up security in the state to allay the fears of visitors who will  throng the state

 for the festival .

 Anderson called on all indigenes of the state at home and in Diaspora

 to visit home and participate in the carnival fiesta.

 The commissioner while trying to explain the theme for this year’s festival, said

 ”The theme of each edition, reflects on the current issues as they affect the state. We have used climate change twice, because our environment affects us”.
