…As community fleeing over cult group letter to stage reprisal attack

The people of Omuchim, Omuakiri in Ikwerre and Obite community in Etche Local government area of Rivers State are presently living in anxiety over the supremacy cult battle between Degbam and Iceland which led to ten casualties.
But as of yesterday when this report was filed, two persons were killed at the cult clash in Obite community in Etche Local government area while eight people were reportedly killed in Omuchim, Omuakiri, Aluu in Ikwerre Local government area of Rivers State.
At Obite in Etche, a source who witnessed the heavy shooting that thrown disquiet in the community said the cult group invaded the community at 9pm, destroyed and looted many properties at the community.
The source said the victim who was shot at Obite was as a result of jungle justice because they thought he was the chief security officer of the community when they arrived the community Security Chief‘s compound.
“What happened is that they invaded the community by 9pm while they were shooting, looting every viable item they see. They entered the compound of the chief security with the intension to kill him but unfortunately the person they met was the victim, who is an In-law to the man they were looking for.”
At Aluu communities where 10 people were reportedly killed, the area was seriously tensed as of Sunday ; even one of the community leaders who spoke to The post said it was risk for the reporter to come to his house.
The community leader who pleaded anonymity in a phone conversation said the clash involving the Degbam and Iceland resulted to the death of eight people and some who escaped with bullets wound.
He said many people are running away from the community because of the threat by the rival cult group that they are going to stage a reprisal attack as solidarity to their members killed during the clash.
He said: “If you say you are going to come to my place, it is risky, I will advice let talk on phone. At the moment the people are running away and nobody know who is who. The cult boys entered the community by 8am and started shooting the people they described as their enemies.
“The Iceland boys is the one that shot the Degbam boys but the fear now is that the Degbam cult group has dropped a letter to the community asking everybody to flee that they are going to revenge tonight.”
Reacting to a text message sent to him, the Rivers State Police spokesman, Mohammad Ahmad, a Deputy Superintended of Police (DSP) said he will get back to the reporter on the issue.
