Benin City. An Afuze Magistrate Court in Edo State yesterday remanded two persons, Messrs John Michael (36) and Salisu Danjuma (52) in prison custody in connection with the accident involving Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s convoy along the Afuze-Auchi Road two months ago in which three Journalists lost their lives.
It would be recalled that the accident happened on Saturday, April 28 2012.
The three journalists, Messrs Olatunji Jacobs, a reporter and George Okosun, a cameraman both with Independent Television and Radio as well as Fidelis Ohani of the African Independent Television (AIT) died in the crash. Several other persons including security details attached to the governor and other journalists on the convoy of the state governor were seriously injured.
The two accused persons were arraigned by the Edo State Police Command on charge sheet marked: MCA/2GC/2012 on three counts that included the murder on the 28th April 2012 of the journalists along Auchi-Warrake Road in Jattu and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code 48 Vol. II of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria applicable to Edo State.
On counts two and three, the duo who were specifically charged with the murder of Olatunji Jacob, George Okosun and Fidelis Ohani, pleaded not guilty before the Magistrate, William Aziegbemew, ordered their remand in prison custody.
The accused persons were thereafter led away to the Auchi Prison for remand until the case comes up for hearing.
