Boko Haram claims killing of retired DIG, aides

The extremist Boko Haram sect has claimed Tuesday’s killing of a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ningi, his driver and a police orderly.
The sect said in an email to journalists late Wednesday that it was behind the killing carried out by two gunmen on a motorcycle along Sauna Kawagi Road in Kano metropolis on his way from his farm.
“Yesterday God gave us victory and we succeeded in killing a former DIG (deputy inspector general)… in Kano city,” the sect said in an email statement to reporters late Wednesday.
The group also vowed to carry out more of such killings of senior government officials.
“By God’s grace very soon top government officials will have no peace as we will intensify attacks on them wherever they are,” it said.
Ningi was among senior police officers relieved of their jobs by President Goodluck Jonathan when he sacked then IG, Hafiz ringim, for being unable to curtail the activities of the sect.
