The Bayelsa State governorship election holds today, December 5.
The election will be conducted in the eight local government areas of the state.
The new governor, the 5th since 1999, will assume office in February 2016.
The oil-rich Bayelsa State has three senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, 24 state constituencies, eight local government areas and 105 Wards.
There are 663,748 registered voters in the state. They are expected to vote in 1,806 Polling Units spread across the local government areas.
The breakdown based on gender distribution shows that men constitute 54 per cent while women make up 46 percent of the voting population.
The occupation distribution includes 250 students, 120,000 fishermen, 80,000 farmers, 70,000 civil servants and 10,000 housewives.
Already, the INEC has accredited 50 observer groups to observe the election out of which 43 are domestic and seven foreign.

The commissioner of police, CP Nasiru Oki confirm to our reporter on phone interview that some thugs have been arrested, weapons and guns recovered in connection of the shooting in Southern Ijaw LGA an Okpoama community, the home town of APC candidate, Timipre Sylva in Brass Local government.

Dickson did his accreditation at 10:45 am in his unite 4, war 2 of Toru-orua community of Sagbama local government. He was angry that the card reader did not recognized him and that of the wife and mother. He accuse the FG, APC of planning to rig the election. He accuse Sylva of distributing arms to his party members to disrupt the election which he said led to the death of one of his supporters. He vowed to protect the result of the election f it goes against the stipulate law. Though accepted that he has faith in INEC.
There is problem at unit 3, 2 and 1 at Toru-Orua community, Dickson home town in Sagbama LG. Thugs suspected to be working for PDP storm the unite and chase away the APC supporters out of the polling units. At Dickson’s unit 4, ward 2 were the card reader have started working, an APC supporter was beaten to coma for challenging the thugs. The security personnel were helpless though they are trying to bring normalcy to the situation.
One of the local observer at Sagbama, Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin of women Arise said the major problem in the area is the issue of card reader not recognising voters thumb print. She called on long term legislative backing to avert future recurrence. She observe that there is tension and anxiety at Sagbama and other parts of the state were she has visited with her team, She called on eligible voters to be calm an patient over the frustrate situation.
Governor Dickson vote at his polling unite by 3:45 pm. He said he is not satisfied with the whole process. He accuse the minister of state for Agriculture, Heniken Lokpobiri and the FG of manipulating the process through the killing an intimidation of his supporters. He thank Bayelsans for been committed to democratic process. He said the FG that controls the security apparatus has a lot of role to play to ensure free an fair election.
