The ex-Niger Delta warlord, High Chief Ateke Tom, has lashed at the new militant group in the oil rich region, the Niger Delta Avengers, when he told them yesterday that his agitation was devoid of criminality and never operated like heartless avengers.
Ateke who spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital noted that during his agitation he never involved in any activity that was criminal, adding that he struggled for development in the region.
While cautioning the new militant group to shun violence and not to drag him into the renewed violence in the region, Ateke said he was surprised that the new militant group have decided to tarnish his reputation by dragging his name into the group.
The Niger Delta Avengers in a recent statement accused Ateke of supporting the Federal Government, noting that his struggle and those of his close associates was based on criminality.
But Ateke who is the leader of Niger Delta Vigilante Force (NDVF) disclosed that his agitation in the region, rather, increased political participation in the area, adding that Goodluck Jonathan was a beneficiary of his agitation.
He advised NDA to stop the unwanted destruction of oil facilities, stressing that their activities was causing untold hardship on the people of the region.
He further stressed that his struggle was devoid of criminality but was an agitation for true federalism which eventually paved way the emergence of more educated youths from the region through the amnesty programme.
