A group, Rivers Upland Patriotic Assembly (RUPA), an affiliate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has called on independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately act fast on the cry of APC to remove the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Rivers State.
The group who played a pivotal role during the presidential campaign in Rivers State said until Dame Gesila Khan, the Rivers REC is remove they will remain uncomfortable.
Briefing journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, the group National Secretary, Hon. Obioma Alison, said INEC must not overlook the petitions of APC in the state if they want to conduct a peaceful governorship and State House of Assembly election in the state.
He said the attitude of REC in the last Presidential poll showed that she lacks the capacity and courage to conduct free, fair and credible poll.
Alison said: “if a judge is accused of bias by any of the parties to a case before him/her, naturally such a judge suspends him/herself from such a case. And for the integrity of the April 11th 2015 State Elections, natural justice demands that the present REC should be removed.
“We hereby urge the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, to as a matter of utmost urgency, order for the removal of Dame Gesila Khan, for her bias and partisanship with PDP during the last Presidential poll in Rivers State.
“Let me also congratulate the President-elect, Gen Mohammadu Buhari, APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, John Odigie Oyegun, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and other leaders of the party for landslide victory at the Presidential poll,” he said.
