The Abia State Governor, Dr Okezia Ikpeazu and Mr Ebi Egbe, CEO, Monimichelle Group, the contractors handling the re-grassing of the Abia International Stadium, home of two-time African Champions, Enyimba International footbal Club, have reached an agreement on Wednesday afternoon for the completion of stadium complex.
The stadium project which will feature a 95% natural synthetic cork fibre grass, would be ready for the use of the team, which will be competing in the continent this season
Fans of the ”Peoples Elephant” have been frustrated by the absence of the team which have been playing outside the state for two consecutive seasons.
Abia State , have now become the fourth Nigerian football team to opt for the natural synthetic pitch being handled by the country’s number one sports construction company.
Others are the Katsina Stadium, Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi and the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
It was reported just last week that the executives of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, are in talks with the company over their readiness to re-grass the National Stadium in Abuja.
The Peoples Elephnat stadium have been affected by cost variations recently, but the state Governor, in order to satisfy the yearnings of the people of the state, has committed to the completion of the stadium in the few weeks, in order to bring back home the state darling football team.
In a chat with journalists few days ago, Dr Ikpeazu has promised the Abians that their team shall return this year.
His words; ”We are committed to the speedy completion of the re-grassing project and within the next weeks, we want to see that this happens”.
